When I was at the shelter Tuesday, there was an orange tiger kitten there. This poor little fellow was attacked by a dog ( Thankfully someone saw it happen and stopped it immediately but not before his legs were damaged, it is believed he is paralysed) and is unable to move his back legs. The shelter does not want to euthanize him as he gets around fairly well and does not appear to be in pain. There is also an older cat there at the shelter approx 1 year old. She is calico and while she is not his mother she has taken care of him as if he were. Because of this the two must stay together, how could they not??? I will be heading back to the shelter tomorrow to take photos of the little fellow and his surrogate mom. If anyone is interested in adopting them please contact me at savingfurryfriends@yahoo.com.Please note that the shelter is, understandably, insisting that the adoptive family not have any far we have had no offers to adopt , and the shelter can not hold them much longer, but we do have an offer to foster for as long as needed, we are asking for help with this little fellows vetting bills as well as help raising funds for a wheelchair for him when he is old enough to use it. If there are any rescues out there that have a wheelchair for a small dog that they are not using perhaphs they would donate it to Tyson to use once he is full grown?? As always our veterinarians name, number and address are available upon request to any and all that donate.
Thanks, Caroline

While we here at SFF can not accomodate humans, we can accomodate an additional 14-16 animals ( sorry no pet aggresive animals)on our 4 acre property ( short term 1-4 weeks). This offer is on a first come first serve basis. We will be errecting and additional 3-4 kennels to accomodate these animals as needed as well as utilizing some of our foster homes. All animals must be current on their vaccinations and come to us with current rabies vaccine certificates. We have volunteers that are willing to travel to southern Tn to transport animals up to us here in Southwest Va. In the event your rescue/your pet have animals in need of a temp. shelter please email us at savingfurryfriends@yahoo.com

Adoptable, News

Gabby is a 1 1/2 year old female shepard/terrier mix that is in search of her forever home. Gabby has a moderate activity level and would be best suited to a family that had children for her to play with. She is up to date on her vaccinations and is spayed.
On July 2nd 2008, in Smyth county,Va. animal control officers responded to a complaint of a foul odor coming from Mr Tyrell Suggs apartment. Upon investigation of Mr Suggs apartment his 3 year old male doberman pincher, named Omar was found dead inside of a closet, left with out food and water for weeks. Ironically enough, Omar was left in the apartment alone because Mr Suggs had been arrested and taken to jail. However, Mr Suggs had numberous opportunities to make other arrangements for Omar. He could had informed the arresting officer that his dog was in the closet, he could have told a neighbor in his apartment complex and asked them to care for Omar,he could have notified a family member that Omar was there and asked them to care for him. He could have even informed correctional officers about Omar. He could have even contacted us as our rescue is less than 5 miles from Mr Suggs home, we would have gladly taken him in. Instead he chose to leave him there in a dark closet with no food, no water, forced to lay in his own waste with no way to escape. Death for this poor soul must have been a relief. I received the photo of Omar from his original owner who could not keep him and wanted to do right by him and rehomed him. Sadly, that gentleman rehomed him, ultimately he ended up in the hands of Tyrell Suggs. Omar’s original owner was notified of what happened to Omar because she had him mirco chipped. She is heartbroken over what has happened to Omar. Omar is the black doberman in the picture watching the other one play.
We, the undersigned, respectfully ask that the court punish Mr Suggs to the full extent that the law will allow. We also ask that the court take into consideration the suffering that Omar endured in the days and weeks that led up to his death and order that Mr. Suggs be banned from owning animals in the future. Lastly, we ask that the court punish Mr Suggs to the full extent that the law will allow because there is a direct correlation between animal abuse and other crimes. People that abuse animals very seldom stop there.

Welcome to Saving Furry Friends, Inc!
We are a 501(c)(3) pending dog rescue located in beautiful rural Virginia.
Both a rescue and sanctuary, we are dedicated to saving shelter dogs (and cats) whose time has run out.
We rescue and care for abandoned and abused pets and strive to find loving forever homes where they can thrive. Many of the companion animals that we rescue are literally minutes from death. They may be strays, owner surrenders, abuse cases, or have medical problems but the one thing they all have in common is that they are society’s throw-a ways and without rescue, they have no chance!
As a sanctuary, we provide long-term love and care to animals deemed unadoptable; either because of age, medical issues or behavioral issues. They are our Sanctuary Residents.
While providing care for pets and finding forever homes for them is our main focus, we are also committed to informing the public about the importance of spaying/neutering their pets, thus reducing the number of unwanted animals that end up in already over crowded shelters.
